My name is Jonah and I am 12 years old. I live in Middelstum, Groningen with my 2 younger sisters, my brother, mum and dad. In Groningen there are earthquakes because of the gas extraction. This causes cracks in houses and makes them unstable. Since several years houses in my village are reinforced. Al of this construction works causes problems. Our old school had to be broken down and a new school was built instead. Our school called the Klim-op was the first earthquake proof school. My friend also got a reinforced house but he went a way to a nearby village. For that I almost didn’t see him for a year. Now we also have to move because our house is being reinforced, build new. The first time I heard that I was shocked and in distress. Luckily we can stay in our village, but not in our own neighbourhood. This makes it more difficult to hang out with friends. We also have to pack and unpack everything twice. This causes a lot of stress especially for my mum and dad and I notice that. My mum worries the most about it. She also thought that when we sat at the table, the second floor would come down on our heads. The house isn’t safe and we’ve known this for many years, but the process of reinforcing seems to take forever. When we talk about earthquakes and reinforcement it makes me frustrated because I think its al not sure and takes very long. I do not like that so much is changing and that scares me. I’m just one kid, telling my story, but in Groningen there are many children in uncertainty in what is going to happen to their house and when. This has to end very soon. this was what I wanted to say thank you all for listening.Bron: Groninger Bodem Beweging (10 oktober 2021) foto uit ons archief
